If Crystal doesn’t have any Siren powers, then what other than force of habit is preventing her from speaking anyway? IIRC she’s silent because of the need to avoid the “Siren Voice” as opposed to being physically incapable of speech . . .
Perhaps force of habit now, or maybe she just forgot how to speak, or just as simple as keeping that theme with the character.
I’m not sure if this has been explicitly stated in the comic proper, but Crystal is mute. Not physically incapable of speech (as we saw David-in-her-body talking plenty), but rather mentally blocked from speaking. It’s some effect of her origins (which I’m sure will be properly explained in the coming pages).
If she can’t speak, why not lock the powers safely inside her body?
To Nebbdyr’s comment I would like to add: If she’s mute isn’t the idea of being “normal” relative?
Well, in this comic, sirens seem to have succubus-like powers that would kill any sexual partners– and potentially kill whoever they kiss.
Maybe Crystal likes getting action without having to deal with a carcass afterwards, so it’s more than just the voice factor.

Tell him he REALLY wants a girlfriend with siren powers – they make sex SO much more fun, and would he like a sample … wait, what am I doing?
Use of siren powers is a signal to the other sirens of her location. David can’t keep her mouth shut for two minutes.

Honey with siren powers would be deadly. She doesn’t really need it any way. She already got that guy an A on his report just by being herself and convinced him he needed to read more.

Ethan is not stupid I sure he would have prepared counter measures to David’s response. He came up with choker idea very quickly.

Well, the transfer of Crystal’s powers to David does mean that the powers can be separated from the body, so a solution in which the Sirens take away the powers and go home, leaving both David and Crystal “normal” is possible.
i dont think its so much separated but stuck to a soul. im pretty sure the choker is to blame too. And if there was a way to take the power away why didnt the sirens do it last time they came to see crystal rather than leave her mute.
Whatever David/Dawn plans to do he needs to do it soon. The other sirens should be in the states within a few hours, they said the afternoon i believe and its probably already 10 am as the flower store is open and all. Depending on how busy the skies are they could very well be in the same city by dinner time, early morning next day at the absolute latest. So if David cant fix this by dinner time he may be taken by the sirens, and any chance of turning back (for the immediate future) ruined.

It seems impolite for Dawn to try to force Ethan to do something he doesn’t want to. Crystal and Ethan seem happy with the way things are. Honey seems to enjoy spending time with her new girlfriend. It would be a shame for Dawn to change back before enjoying everything life as a siren has to offer. If Dawn misses basketball, she could join her old team’s cheerleading squad.
It seems like Dawn might fit in well working at Beaver Tails. She has ample assets for the job. Bay might be able to give her a couple of pointers on pleasing customers. Dawn could even end up becoming one of the customers’ favorite Beavers. Maybe Dawn’s old basketball team would visit her at work.
