Bay Smith is a main character. Once a guy, she was turned into a girl several years ago. She keeps this fact a secret, and only a handful of people know.
She's now a struggling actress whose roommate is actually her daughter from an alternate future timeline.
She knows that she ought to know some things about him by now but truthfully, wouldn’t you feel it gets awkward to ask simple questions of basis stuff like a name after seeing and meeting someone so often after a long time? It’s like that for me with a convenience store cashier I used to see almost daily for years and I didn’t know her name for so long. Just imagine that for someone you’re going to marry!
Awkward though it might be, she needs to know this stuff. She’s already agreeing to marry the guy (admittedly, to stay in the country, but let’s face it, she could’ve picked anyone for this), so if there’s anything about him she doesn’t know, she should feel free to ask. Because, let’s face it, they’re gonna have to get started on getting to know each other sooner or later. 😉
And, you know, Bad Taiming also kinda has a point.
And I have totally been that guy who sees someone a lot and still doesn’t know their name. You figure out what question to ask, and it’s a little awkward at first, but you learn that folks will generally understand, especially if you couple it with a “I’m sorry, I’m terrible with names…” which gives YOU a social out and gives THEM a reason to let you get away with it.
Most people will laugh it off. Once I had a guy press me to try to remember it, and when I finally gave up he eventually provided his name. Haven’t forget it since. 😉
She better know his name before they talk to the agent or she will be on the next plane to Canada.
I wonder if she will still marry him when she finds out his name is Reinhold Marks.
Oh just ask him already Bay! 🙂
I don’t think asking your fiance what their first name is could go very well. Unless… How long, story-wise, has it been since the 8th Story, Homeward?

What if his name is Karl? O.O
If she doesn’t know his first name … what does she call him?
