Being nearsighted helps you see things up close. Basically, nearsightedness shifts your entire focus range closer to you. Both the far focus point (so you can’t focus to infinity anymore), but also the close focus point. Farsightedness shifts your focus range away from you, but the common type people get from old age only shifts the close focus point away (lens gets stiffer so you can’t focus as close).
I’m in my mid-40s and I don’t need reading glasses – I can focus to about 3″ away from my eyes when I take my (nearsighted) glasses off. Course my max focus distance is about a foot without the glasses. It’s why I opted not to get eye surgery when I was younger. All that does is trade off nearsighted glasses when you’re young for reading glasses when you’re older. Plus the side effects like glare and sparkly lights at night.
(Had to edit out “laser” – it was triggering some sort of spam filter.)
I had 20-20 vision until high school, then I got really nearsighted (20/80 right eye, 20/200 left eye.) Now I’m 65 and I’m really farsighted. Sort of an optician’s dream customer.
Actually, someone who’s really nearsighted can have problems even trying to read without glasses. I had to hold books and things about an inch from my face in order for the words to come into focus. But in this case, I’d say Honey is more likely farsighted, since she doesn’t seem to have problems seeing things at a distance, but can’t read things that are close up very well.
Ethan’s vision is more like my personal experiences with nearsightedness, although he has it worse than I ever did. Although, perhaps his and Honey’s vision problems got combined when Crystal started tinkering?
Yeah, but Honey is so self-conscious about people seeing her with eye glasses that she doesn’t want others to see her with them on. Maybe if she gets tinted lens, she would take in less of the stereotypical connations that comes with eye glasses, like shades.
The only semi-logical reason she doesn’t want to wear glasses and “look smart” is she must get some kind of kick out of playing the dumb blonde. I guess she’d dye her hair brown if she wanted the “smart” look.
It is too bad she does not feel confidant with glasses. For me, they have just been a part of getting dressed since 5th grade. I did learn that anyone who bases their thought of my worth because of them is not worth my time. ((also would love to play “librarian” with her))
I know that feeling. After a while you (and everyone around you) get used to it, so just except it and move on.
Get contacts, sweetie.
I suspect this has more to do with overlapping genetic code with Ethan than age.
Honey’s been nearsighted since long before she met Ethan.

Yoiks, I apparently don’t know enough about ocular maladies to be making specific statements like I did.
Let’s change that to “Honey’s had problems with reading since long before she met Ethan.”

Did she not need them before the first swap with Ethan?

I keep thinking Ethan is going to end up wearing a dress soon. Somehow getting mixed up as the real honey.
Hah, that’d be awesome! I definitely want to see that. 🙂

Honey has major self-doubts about being seen as “nerdy” compared to her “hot” mother.
She’s farsighted, too?
she’s got a sorta sexy teacher vibe with glasses -nod-
