Bay Smith is a main character. Once a guy, she was turned into a girl several years ago. She keeps this fact a secret, and only a handful of people know.
She's now a struggling actress whose roommate is actually her daughter from an alternate future timeline.
I’m assuming Avatar; Trav doesn’t strike me as a big reader. And assuming it is Avatar, and that it came out in 2009 in the Bayverse, it can’t be more than 2015 or Brad would remember seeing it from before he got turned into Bay.
To be honest, that’s what I’ve wondered. Why Climb the mountain, if the flying dragon chooses it’s rider. You’d think the Dragon would be smart enough to think, “I’m going to go with the guy who’s smart enough NOT to kill himself trying to get to me.”
I would say that it’s a test of worth. Does the dragon want to have just anyone riding on her or does she need to see how much the “rider-to-be” wants this. Also she would probably just stay up the mountain, doing her own thing unless someone actually comes by.
I did some quick searches on the internet, and while I wasn’t able to find a definite answer, I found that apparently in many cases such dresses DON’T stay up, at least nog on their own, though a lot of it seems to be based on how much they move around throughout the evening
I always figured that the narrow part around the waist once zipped up keeps it up because it would be unable to enlarge to get down to her hips, sort of like a corset.
Even with a snug fit waist it is only cloth after all. Try and hold a santa hat upside down by the tip and you will see how easily it flops over or turns itself inside-out. This is why there is engineering involved as well as a hidden supporting structure within the fabric. It is a compromise between a steel ice-cream cone [madona] and something comfortable to wear – comfort comes in dead last most times.
I just realized something. Now that Bay has split her mind to let Brad have his memories, Bay can tell Auction Guy the truth about where she came from and she can tell him about the recreation of Brad and the transfer of memories. She could then say that the memory of his name was transferred to Brad as well and she needs him to tell her his name again.
@SaylorA: Slight flaw in your plan: Brad never met Auction Guy. Bay didn’t meet Auction Guy until he made the top bid for her at the charity auction.
@willis: If it is Morgan, I’d expect Brad to make a pass at her. As far as we know, Brad has no history with Morgan, although it’s conceivable that Brad could have known her or at least known of her because he got turned into Brad to replace Morgan when Morgan skipped out on her contract to play Sailor Sun.
@EricKei, @Robert: “Bridal Shop” suggests that this might be just a section of a larger store, so the sign could be meant to be read from the inside. Or maybe C.D. goofed.
Tom, I think you missed my point. When Bay met AG, Brad essentially did not exist. Later Bay finds out that it is possible for Brad to be recreated, so Bay has it done. New Brad needs memories. Bay gives up those memories to new Brad. Bay tells AG the truth about herself originally being Brad. Bay tell AG the truth about how Brad has been recreated. Bay tells AG the truth about giving up her memories of when she was Brad to new Brad. Bay lies to AG about giving up more memories than she intended and claims she doesn’t remember his name and therefore asks him to tell her his name again. Bay now knows his name and never tells anyone the truth of how she learned his name.
but if she tells him… Auction guy will realize it was the Brad side of Bay that he loved then Bay will get left at the alter when Ag and Brad elope to Vancouver.
Bay is lying to him now, in the form of lying by omission. She hasn’t told him that she doesn’t know his name. This would put an end to that ongoing lie by making a short lie that has no long term ramifications.
As for lying in general, I don’t condone it. A person will eventually get caught when they can’t remember who they have told specific lies to and contradict themselves.
for that matter, what is Morgan doing outside the Bridal Shop?
Looks like she’s… walking past. Don’t you ever walk past shops without buying there?
Walking past?
Nefarious!
Is something in particular already annoying her, or does she simply always walk around angry?
This reminds me of a scene from the Simpsons, when a prison guard shouts that nothing is holding up Marge’s dress except her boobs.
Either that or very carefully placed pieces of tape….
What’s Trav talking about?
My first thought of that was maybe a scene from James Cameron’s Avatar. No spoilers; go watch the movie yourselves, it’s a great one.
I thought it was a reference to The Dragonriders of Pern, actually.

I was curious about this as well, and asked CD. Jenny and Tom are right: it’s Avatar, the James Cameron movie.
So why climb the mountain?
To be honest, that’s what I’ve wondered. Why Climb the mountain, if the flying dragon chooses it’s rider. You’d think the Dragon would be smart enough to think, “I’m going to go with the guy who’s smart enough NOT to kill himself trying to get to me.”
Obviously, the riderchoosing sense is short-distance.
I would say that it’s a test of worth. Does the dragon want to have just anyone riding on her or does she need to see how much the “rider-to-be” wants this. Also she would probably just stay up the mountain, doing her own thing unless someone actually comes by.
A Stress Analysis of a Strapless Evening Gown
Heh, looks interesting. Sadly, there doesn’t seem to be a synopsis, so the answer to the question still eludes us.
One of the book reviews makes mention of a thesis paper on the subject but sadly does not provide much in the way of clues to that document.
Waaaait a sec…Shouldn’t the store name be backwards from their point of view? o_O
Shouldn’t it also be something less generic than “Bridal Shop”? 🙂
Oppsie. My Bad
yeah i was going to mention that minor artistic problem, but hey its a comic not a biggy.
the answer to Brad’s question is–courage

That’s what I figured as well. It being tight is what keeps it on.
Somethimes there is boneing int eh bodices that helps to keep the bodice up.

So you think it’s a good idea for a bride to lie to her hubby-to-be at the very beginning of there marriage?
