I’ll like to address an issue that’s recently come up in the comic’s comment. Mostly it’s about people’s perceptions and expectations of myself and my comics.
First of all my spelling and grammar (as many of you have figured out by now) basically sucks. I’m not dyslexic nor do I have any other mental or physiological conditions that I am aware of. I’m just not very good at writing. I do write reports and documents in my professional life. To do this, I usually write something quite a bit ahead of time, then after a few days to a week, RE-READ it to accurately find and correct the spelling and grammar mistakes. So why don’t I do this for the comics? Because I have found I tend to get lazy would never be able to post regularly when I have a backlog of corrections to make. I HAVE gone over already posted comics in the past and corrected them and I probably will keep correcting past comics.
When I started SailorSun.org, I wanted to try a different type of story telling. Instead of seeing everything happen to characters, I wanted to start by meeting characters who already has a history. Sometimes this turned out to be a good thing, some times NOT. I believe this is why a lot of people have problems following the storyline and again, I am probably am not the best story teller.
As for my art skills… some people have commented about my lack of ability to draw on and off model and my inconsistent style over the past several years… Considering I have NO formal art training, no experience and very few artistic outlets beyond making the comics… Yes, my skills are not on the same level as a professional artist. I make online comics as a hobby. It doesn’t pay the bills, it doesn’t add to my professional resume and it won’t get me a higher paying job then what I do for a living now. I love my current job, and though I would like to improve my art skills, by doing courses or something, it is merely a hobby.
That being said, I do READ all the comments, even those filtered and never appear on the site. Long ago I started a policy that comments that bad mouth, rude, or disrespected myself or any other commenter would not be posted or removed (if it passed the filtering system).
If you like my site & comic, or hate it… keep in mind, it is just a hobby and not who I am or what I do for a living… I started making SailorSun.org to gain practice and improve my art skills, comic making skills and yes, even my writing. I find it an excellent way to try new things, new ways of doing things, writing challenges and new techniques. If you don’t like what I draw or write, that’s fine. I don’t expect everyone to like it. But consider why I started SailorSun.org… To try and to learn… I don’t need to be mocked or insulted for trying something different, nor do I need to be insulted for trying at all…
I’m not looking for sympathy nor a pat on my back… I just want to make everyone aware, why I make comics, where I stand and that comments are read by at least one person. So think about what your writing and consider what it might mean to those reading it.
