1110 : Chick Flick
Uh oh… So not only has Crystal dressed him up as a hot girl, but she’s taking him to a chick flick, too?
Escape, Ethan! You’ve gotta get out of there! Your man card is in danger of being revoked entirely!

Now Robert, we all know that Ethan had a man card at one time.
He rescued (well, sort of) Crystal from that as*hat guy outside of the club way back when..
But, lately, ya, Ethan’s man card has been lacking alot!
You don’t have to censor yourself on the internet, friend. 🙂
To be fair Ethan mostly only thinks about science; I bet he doesnt know anything about ‘the notebook’ movie other than it is a movie.
Ech. Macho drivel. :p
A truly strong person does not conform to others’ opinion of what they should like.
Hear hear!
That movie came out when I was five years old.
Ordinarily, I would suggest Ethan take some mindbending drugs before seeing the film, but since this a CDRudd comic, so that would be ill-advised.
Take the compromise, Ethan. Find a comedy.
But not a Rom Com because those are wholly sexist and degrading.
Well it’s the June-July 2004 stretch, so this should give an indication of what’s available to watch:

A fairly good time to go to the movies. The best of the Raimi Spider-Man movies would come out about 5 days after The Notebook, but there’s also Harry Potter 3, Napoleon Dynamite, and a few others that have become notorious for good or bad reasons. I still remember that f*cking Garfield trailer playing on TV for a good three months before the damn thing came out. July’s also got some pretty good ones, as well as some pretty bad ones. The Metallica documentary is highly entertaining, regardless of your opinion on the album. Can’t go wrong with Anchorman, but you can with Catwoman.
Don’t give Dawnie any ideas…
Not only dressed up as a hot girl, but Ethan is wearing GLASSES. Hilarity (or something) will ensure.
Oh crap, you’re right! Because as we learned with Honey, glasses are dude-magnets.
Wow but that was a bad movie. That is all I got for this strip. I saw that movie when it came out with my boyfriend of the time, and neither of us ever wanted to see it again. Nice premise, horrible execution.
They’re going out to see a 13 year old movie?
There is a growing trend of “drafthouse” theaters that play more than just current films. Even my local rinky-dink theater has “Flashback Tuesdays”, where they show classics like Ghostbusters and Back to the Future.
If trailers are playing, doesn’t that mean it’s just 13 years ago?
Like, I’d be very surprised to be watching TV and see a trailer for The Planet of the Apes, or Star Wars, or Alien, or Beauty and the Beast, or The Fast and the Furious, or The Mummy, or Pirates of the Carribean, or Blade Runner, or King Kong, or It, or Cars, or Power Rangers, or Trainspotting, or even Ghost in the…
Hang on a minute here…
Okay, so maybe I wouldn’t be that surprised, but you get my point, it’s not like you’re gonna see a trailer for Mission Impossible, or Jurassic Park, or Harry Potter, or Super Troopers, or Mary Poppins, or Ocean’s 11, or Bad Boys, or, well, you get the drift. It’s not like I’m gonna see trailers for those on TV any time soon.
Right?
Maybe she watched the trailer on internet?
Yeah, that’s what I was going to say, hkmaly: trailers for pretty much every movie ever made have been on YouTube for years.
Would have been better going out to watch Rocky Horror – just remember to bring toast.
The Notebook??
Where is gun toting psycho in the trenchcoat when you need them?
Have any of you checked out the honest trailer for The Notebook at Screen Junkies?
Ethan can’t escape. It’s why she put him in high heels.
Wait…
The Notebook came out in 2004, but Brady said she saw trailers for it
I remember an old comic where Bay stated it was 2006 (the year that particular comic was made), and Brady only came a few months before the start of the comic if I read the timeline correctly
Not counting all the time travel and flashbacks, the point between the start of this comic and now can’t have been more then a few months, a year tops
What year is it?
Pretty sure that quite a bit more time than that has passed.
I mean, we saw Honey arrive, then she had enough time to get situated, start going to school again, get her bachelor’s degree, and start attending graduate school, which is where she met David.
Bay’s had time to meet AG, date him long enough for both of them to fall in love, and have AG ask her to marry him. Yeah, the parts after that have been heavily time-compressed compared to a typical relationship, due to Bay’s impending deportation, but the lead-up had to take at least several months all on its own, right?
And I don’t even remember most of the plot points from the comics before like 2010, even though it’s been running since 2006.
Didn’t Honey go back to school BEFORE the comic started? Because of the time travel stuff with Berry resulted the note to send Honey to college still being sent?
Exactly how long after Brad of TG’d did he get pregnant with Brady? I’ve never been sure where in that approx. 4 years before the start of the comic that even took place
Because a Bachelor’s degree takes 4 years (I doubt Honey would be able to transfer credits from the future) and there was about 4 years between Brad becoming Bay and the start of the comic, given that Honey showed up a couple of months after Brady left to be with Heather, figuring out when in that 4 years it all happened can help us figure out how much time has passed in the comic
Wow, does Brady not know what that movie is about. Though, considering the ending, Heather might have lied to her.
